Both tracks are heading south east, but overnight 28th - 29th it appears BOM is curving it up to being eastwards. JTWC doesn't show that . If you head out towards East Arm Wharf. Just behind the Port Authority building is a hill. Atop this hill is a large metal viewing platform which has pretty good views over the harbour to the city and also back over Palmerston. There are a few trees obscuring the views but there are a few spots up there that would give you a good view. Now obviously its not a good place to be if there is lightning about (And there are signs to warn of this on the way up the tower) But might be worth a look for...

I'd be curious to hear more about the calm-- like, where people experienced it and what time. My impression-- looking at the radar loops and wind data from Port Hedland Airport-- is that the center passed a hair E of the city.
